• Pick up service only - Stuff Etc will pick up already boxed items. Staff will sort and enter items at the Stuff store of our choice. Unwanted items will be donated to charity.
• Sort, box and pick up - Stuff Etc staff will come to your home, sort your items, box them up, and take them to the Stuff Etc store of you choice to be entered.

The Iowa City Junior Service League is hosting a fundraiser at the Idyllwild condominium community. This event showcases local business and "Green" ways of decorating. The event runs this Saturday from 10am - 4pm and Sunday from 12pm - 4pm. The cost of the tickets for this fundraiser are $10 and the funds raised will go to the United Action for Youth programs. For the first time...you will be able to purchase the items put on display!!! This Sunday from 4pm - 6pm, you can come and purchase items displayed at both condos. Part of the proceeds from these sales will also go to the United Action for Youth programs.

Big Brothers Big Sisters

Have you heard about our Charity Umbrella Program???

Each month Stuff Etc supports a Linn County and Johnson County charitable organization. We have umbrellas hanging upside down at our register terminals, encouraging customers to throw in their spare change, etc.

We also encourage donations by offering a shopping discount for customers who put $1 in our charity umbrella. This has been a fun and successful project. Stuff Etc enjoys working with our community to support local organizations.

In August Stuff Etc chose to support the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Linn and Johnson County.

We raised $1972.00 for the Johnson County BBBS.

We raised $864.00 for the Linn County BBBS.

Big Brothers Big Sisters' goal is to expand horizons through the power of one-to-one friendships.

The Today Show!

You MUST watch the Today Show tomorrow morning! It is not often I would recommend tv shows through the blog, but this is something you HAVE to watch.

Kevin Kasson (a son of a long-time consignor) is up for Esquire magazine's "Best Dressed Real Man in America". Kasson will be on the Today Show tomorrow morning when they announce the winner. He is one of 5 finalists from thousands that applied. He will be wearing a suit tomorrow that he purchased at our Iowa City location. He is known for his classic style of such stars as Bogart, Sinatra and Cary Grant.

Clean out those closets!

Rule of Thumb: "If you haven't worn it in 6 months you NEED to get rid of it!"

I pondered this as I organized my closet this weekend. I was sorting through last years fall items and deciding what to sell. Some items I knew I had not worn last spring (when it was still freezing), but I REALLY like them, and surely I will wear them this cold-weather season. After all the organizing was done, I realized I had only pulled out 3 things. I have a shopping problem (the first step to recovering is admitting you have a problem)...so I knew there was more that had to come out if I was going to be able to put more in.


AWESOME TIP #1: Hang all your clothing in your closet backwards, with the hanger hooked onto the bar from the back. Once you have worn and washed your clothing hang it back in your closet with the hanger hooked on from the front. ***Illustration below*** What is still hanging backwards after 6 months, needs to be put in a Stuff Etc recyclable shopping bag and consigned at your nearest Stuff store immediately. Trust me you will not miss it!

Do you know about our Charity Umbrella Program???

Each month Stuff Etc helps the community support a non-profit organization in Linn and Johnson County. We have umbrellas hanging at our register area for customers to donate to our selected charities. We give incentive for shoppers to donate dollars by offering discounts for donations given to the umbrellas.

In July our Cedar Rapids Stuff Etc locations supported Foundation2 of Linn County.

Who They Are

Foundation 2 is a not-for-profit human service agency that offers crisis prevention and intervention programs to people of all ages. We are committed to positive youth development, suicide prevention, and helping build the foundation for stronger and healthier families and safer communities for everyone.

What They Do

Our services include a 24-hour crisis hotline, a youth shelter, individual and family counseling, and outreach and after-school programs for vulnerable youth.

Here is how it works:
1. Bring in 3 canned goods to any Stuff Etc store the weekend that is NOT their Store-Wide 1/2 Price Sale...see below for 1/2 Price Sale dates.
2. The weekend for Stuff Etc is Friday, Saturday or Sunday.
3. Turn your 3 canned goods in at the register to receive 25% off all regular priced items.
4. The beginning of August we will collect all cans donated and deliver to the Crisis Center Food Bank. We will definitely be posting the results here on our blog, so check back!!!

Stuff Etc goes to Arizona!!!

Mary Sundblad, owner of Stuff Etc, along with the manager of the Cedar Rapids East store, Jody Hagerty, the manager of the Cedar Rapids West store, Laurie Hanson, the managers of the Coralville store, Sara Sundblad and Brittany Lephew, and the manager of the Iowa City store, Stacie Frede, recently attended the National Association of Resale & Thrift Shops (NARTS) 22nd Annual Conference in Scottsdale, AZ. Carefully crafted for resale professionals, the four day conference is the industry's most comprehensive educational event of the year. Sundblad and team attended specialized resale workshops, stimulation networking sessions, a motivating keynote speech and a resale trade show during this focused program.


Mary Sundblad has been a member of NARTS for 18years. "We have an ongoing commitment at Stuff Etc to continue our resale education and stay at the top of our profession," says Sundblad. "We left the meeting in Scottsdale with renewed energy and a multitude of invaluable ideas to help us provide exceptional service and quality merchandising to our customers."
